Reminders for Mental Health Recovery
Mental health recovery is hard. No matter what you are struggling with, recovery is messy, it’s challenging and the pain can feel never-ending. I wanted to share some reminders with you today. I hope that something here speaks to you and I hope you can remind yourself of this over the coming week. <3
You do not have to reach a certain point to be deserving of recovery. No diagnosis, no number, no situation will ever be enough for the part of your brain that is unwell. You deserve to recover now.
A mirror cannot reflect how much you are loved. Your worth is determined by so much more than your appearance.
You have survived 100% of your bad days. You will survive today too.
Those steps that you need to take to heal, that seem impossible and terrifying? They aren’t as scary as living a life controlled by anxiety and fear. Nothing is scarier than not fighting and nothing changing.
The world is a better place because you are in it. There will be a time in the future when you are grateful to be alive.
Comparison is the thief of joy. Your journey is your journey. It will never look the same as anyone else’s. And that is okay.
Your body needs fuel to function. You can’t thrive or heal properly without fuel. You deserve to nourish yourself.
Everything in life is temporary. The difficult moments and the pain you are feeling is temporary. There is always a brighter day ahead.
There is a future version of you who is so grateful that you chose to fight instead of give up. Please fight for future you.
You deserve to heal. Now. Exactly as you are.
In five or ten years time, when you look back at yourself now, what do you think future you would say? Each choice you make either takes you towards the version of future you that you want to be, or leads you further away. I know that those choices are hard, I know that it isn’t easy. But every little choice adds up to create the version of yourself you want to be in the future. Try and make decisions today that future you would be grateful for.
Sometimes it feels like we have to choose recovery over and over again. Once is never enough. But keep doing it, over and over. Until things don’t feel quite so hard.
Did any of these reminders in-particular speak to you?
